FAQ and Troubleshooting the Altura 56 inch Fan
Is it possible to flush mount this ceiling fan?
No, the Altura 56 inch Ceiling Fan cannot be flush mounted.
Is a dimmer switch available to control the ceiling fan’s speed?
After checking with Home Depot the answer is NO, NEVER should you use a dimmer switch for controlling a fan. Apparently it will cause additional
wear on the sensitive capacitors and also the motor.
It can also cause a noise in the ceiling fan, due to the fact that the motor was built to have a consistent 120v AC power supply at all times.
When the ceiling fan is on high speed why does it seem to rotate so slow?
The Altura 56 inch Ceiling Fan features a total of 5 high-efficiency fan blades. They are designed in such an efficient way that as a result, they do not need to be rotating as fast as the standard fans to create adequate air movement.
The Altura Ceiling Fan will not start, what can I do?
You will need to resync the remote and receiver. Follow the step by step process in the manual which you can download below at the end of this article.
Check all of the main and branch fuses.
Make sure to check the line wire connections leading to the ceiling fan and the switch wire connections in the switch housing.
Check the remote control battery.
When using the remote control make sure you are in the range of about 10 feet to 20 feet.
Check the dip switch settings.
The Altura ceiling fan turns itself on/off. What can I do?
You may need to change the dip switch setting pattern in the handheld remote control and follow the process found in the Altura ceiling fan manual, which you can download at the end of this article.
After you have tried changing the dip switches to all of the 16 possible combinations, and the Altura fan still continues to turn itself on and off, then try replacing the remote control receiver.
What can I do if the Hampton Bay Altura fan will not change direction?
The ceiling fan will need to be turned on and running before pushing the reverse function.
Press one of the speed buttons on the Altura remote control and wait for the fan to start moving, then, while the fan is still moving proceed to press and hold down the reverse button for at least 10 seconds.
Review of the Hampton Bay Altura 56 inch Ceiling Fan
Being one of the more older fans it does have a huge amount of reviews. To be exact, 1155 and counting.
Of all the 1155 customers who bought and reviewed this ceiling fan, 84% of them said they would recommend it.
They collectively gave the fan a total of 4.4 stars out of 5 stars, with appearance receiving the highest award of 4.9 stars.
I only have one real complaint about the Altura 56 inch fan, and that involves the assembly instructions.
The remote instructions are actually printed in a completely separately from the main fan instructions.
And the Altura fan instructions are general relating to more than just the Altura 56 inch model. I believe there are 68 inch, 60 inch, 52 inch and 48 inch versions as well.
So, if you go ahead and start with the ceiling fan installation instructions and then you realize there happens to be a completely different set of instructions for the remote control, you wind up having to undo a lot of the ceiling fan installation steps so that you can install the remote control.
Besides that, the actual parts are of a very reasonable quality for the price. The ceiling fan functions well and looks very attractive. I would definitely buy it again and would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend.
The ceiling fan was packaged together well. Overall it was easy to install once you worked out the fan had different sets of instructions.
The supplied lighting kit was also a breeze to install even when with my larger than normal hands.
We have been using the fan all the time in our living room and I find running the fan in reverse during the winter months pulls the air up which helps in keeping the room warm.
Our living room feels so much more comfortable.
The ceiling fan motor is super quiet and operates very smoothly. We installed the dimmable LED bulbs so that we had less maintenance to worry about.
We opted for the oil-rubbed bronze finished which looks great and certainly fits in well with our dark oak table and cabinets.
Pros: High Quality, Looks Stylish, Functional, Remote control
Cons: Instructions could be clearer
